A new petition has been sent to President Bola Tinubu calling for the immediate removal of FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, over his alleged role in escalating the political crisis in Rivers State.
The petition, submitted by political scientist Kio Amachree on February 8, 2026, accuses Wike of actions that could worsen tensions and destabilize the state. Amachree demanded a full investigation into the minister’s conduct in public office.
Amachree stressed that his concerns are personal and non-partisan. “I do not belong to any political party. I have no political ambition. I have no ties to any Nigerian politician,” he wrote. His main goal, he said, is peace, constitutional order, and justice in Rivers State and the Niger Delta.
The petition criticized the heavy security presence in the state, noting that Rivers is not a conflict zone. “Treating residents as enemies of the state is unacceptable and will deepen anger among the people,” Amachree warned.
Wike was identified as the central figure in the crisis. The petitioner formally demanded his removal and investigation by the EFCC and ICPC for alleged corruption, abuse of office, and unexplained wealth. He also called for a full audit of Wike’s assets, including his luxury vehicles and overseas properties.
The petition further raised concerns about an audio recording circulating online, allegedly capturing Wike threatening a political opponent. Amachree questioned why no arrest or investigation has occurred, saying, “Selective justice destroys nations.”
He concluded by warning the President that ignoring the petition could have far-reaching consequences for peace and stability in Rivers State.
